DESIGN FROM THE INSIDE OUT
What does ‘design from the inside out’ mean as a theory of contemporary architecture? First, it is an approach and methodology of arriving at a design solution. There are multiple levels of inquiry that must be thoroughly vetted using consistent principles to reach a successful outcome. This line of investigation and questioning starts with the programming. The program of a building is more than the relationship of a list of areas and functions. It is also a metaphysical aspiration that reflects the conceptual and interconnected goals of the project. From this vantage point we can evaluate each design decision empirically, which allows us to fully acknowledge the context in which we build.
